About FOSS Developers Camp

Many free & open source projects host yearly (sometimes bi-annual) developers conferences. They give the project members a chance to meet up, work on new additions to the projects, discuss the future directions that the project will go in and squash bugs in person. These development conferences offer many advantages over online collaboration through email, Internet Relay Chat (IRC) and Instant Messaging (IM).

The FOSSDevCamp conference would be a similar gathering but for developers from all free & open source projects. This would allow cross collaboration between projects, would allow developers from different but like minded projects to share ideas, fix similar bugs and generally make free & open source software better in a neutral location. This conference would also allow members of the various free & open source operating system distributions, eg. Debian, Fedora, OpenSUSE, Ubuntu, FreeBSD, NetBSD to work with the upstream developers for projects such as Mozilla Firefox & Thunderbird, GNOME, KDE, etc. and resolve potential issues that may or may not have been introduced by the operating system distribution.
